Character Background: Alana Rodgers is a Canal Martian born Alaanah Phyreeh in 1911 on Mars. Her hometown was poor and when she was six, her parents died in a famine. 

A privateer ship had stopped to liberate any "survivors" (ie: goods) and she was "rescued" to be sold at the port: Karkarham. She escaped when the ship made dock. After living rough for a short time, she was taken in by the Rodgers - a family that worked on the docks. She was raised, not as a daughter, but as an apprentice working on machines.

When she turned 18 she got a job on a passing ship for a short term mechanic and made her way to New Town.
