Character Background: Brock is Sir Ralph Maddock's pet rock and "animal companion". Brock is a slightly less than 2 pound lump of black rock, measuring about 6 inches, which defies analysis. Rating extremely high on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, though tests that Sir Ralph performs are oddly inconsistent (at different times as low as 7 or as high as 9.5). This could mean that Brock is a composite of different materials, or something much stranger.

Sir Ralph has no memory of when he first acquired Brock, though he can remember Brock being with him ever since he left the family seat in the Summer Isles, though that period of Sir Ralph's life are very hazy.

Brock speaks to Sir Ralph in a high pitched, ethereal voice which no-one else, besides Sir Ralph himself, seems to be able to hear. Brock has a rambunctious spirit, often teasing and jovial, and enjoys non-sequiturs and playful wit.

Brocks favourite foods are pancakes slathered in syrup and butter, runny eggs and bacon grease. Brock does not float and dislikes the smell of the colour green, especially when it is in the corner of a room. Brock also does not like being put into pants pockets or luggage, and prefers to ride around in Sir Ralph's inner coat pocket.
